The Lygaeoidea Species File database contains taxonomic and other information about all the seed bugs of the world, both living and fossil.
Note: This online catalog is under continual development as more specimen data and other information are added.
The Lygaeoidea Species File is based on the world catalogues of Slater (1964) and
Slater & O´Donnell (1995) and the Catalog of the Berytidae of the World of Henry
& Froeschner (1998):
|
- Slater, J. A. 1964. A Catalogue of the Lygaeidae of the World. Vol. I & II. University
of Connecticut, Storrs.
- Slater, J. A. & J. E. O’Donnell. 1995. A Catalogue of the Lygaeidae of the World
(1960-1994). New York Entomological Society, New York.
- Henry, T. J. & R. C. Froeschner. 1998. Catalog of the Stilt bugs, or Berytidae,
of the World (Insecta: Hemiptera: Heteroptera). Contributions of the American Entomological
Institute 30(4): 1-72.

The first two catalogues were digitalized through a GBIF award received by Randall
Schuh (AMNH) in 2003.

To see information contained in the database, use the links across the top of the
page. Click on
Search to find a specific taxon or other kinds of information. Clicking
on Taxa will make the
superfamily Lygaeoidea your current taxon unless you have previously moved to a
different taxon in this session.
This website and database use Species File Software. Information about the
design and use of SFS may be found on a separate website.
